NPD Worldwide is building on the momentum of NPD's BeautyTrends service, and soon will launch EuroBeauty, a Europe-based, point-of-sale tracking service for the prestige beauty industry. Together, the two services will make NPD the first market information company to provide a complete overview of the combined U.S. and European fragrance and prestige beauty industry.

As in the U.S., NPD's beauty service for European clients will track sales of prestige fragrances, makeup and skincare products. NPD EuroBeauty has received the endorsements of the French and European Retailers' Associations.

EuroBeauty is slated to roll out in France in spring 2004, as two-thirds of the top beauty manufacturers in Europe are based in Paris. French beauty manufacturers and retailers have long sought relevant quantitative analyses for their industry and an accurate accounting of industry-wide sales data. EuroBeauty aims to meet those needs by providing significantly greater coverage of the marketplace than has been available to date; a comprehensive evaluation of the market; and fast, accurate data delivery.

The French service will be based on census-level data (i.e., all store coverage) for the major retail chains, plus data from a representative selection of independent retailers. This represents the first time in France that beauty retailers, including department stores, have agreed to share their sales and inventory data at such a complete level. EuroBeauty subscribers will receive information built up from the door and EAN (SKU) levels, as well as from weekly sales and monthly inventories for each door in the sample, allowing for extensive analyses of meaningful market niches.

Following EuroBeauty's debut in France, NPD plans to launch the service in Germany, Italy and Spain.
