Warnaco

Speedo, Warners, Chaps, and Calvin Klein jeans are among the names under Warnaco’s’ umbrella, along with other well-known swimwear, apparel, and sportswear brands for men, women, and children. This is why Warnaco, Inc. is a “multi-brand, multi-channel apparel company” – and its highly recognized brand names appeal to a diverse audience. Helping the company assess the market and understand its competition are Lara Garguilo and Robyn Teplansky, market analysts at Warnaco who consider NPD information a valuable resource.

Garguilo and Teplansky rely on NPD’s monthly Excel reports for the fashion industry. The reports deliver snapshots of the fashion categories in which Warnaco competes: Intimate Apparel, Men’s Underwear, Women’s Sportswear Bottoms, Men’s Sportswear, and Swimwear.

“The monthly reports provide a detailed snapshot of each segment, allowing us to measure our brands’ performance against the competition and identify the key styles driving the industry,” Garguilo said. “The reports are used across several Warnaco divisions, at every level: Finance, Merchandising, Sales, Forecasting, Marketing, and Corporate Management.”

“We look to the reports for insight on year-to-date dollar sales and share, unit sales and share, and average price. Top brands and styles in the industry and within our company, key styling attributes, and price point distribution are all covered – and that’s information we depend on,” Teplansky said.

The pair reports NPD’s monthly information is a critical input for their company’s decision-making. “The NPD reports are useful in so many ways. Some of our colleagues use the data when they meet with key accounts, others use it to guide important design decisions. It also gives us a sense of competitive awareness and helps us uncover new opportunities within our industries and channels,” said Garguilo.

Teplansky continued, “NPD information provides overall market information for our financial and strategic planning. And, importantly, it gives our corporate management and board of directors a report card on each segment of the business. It’s part of many Warnaco business decisions, helping us serve many distribution channels with a diverse portfolio of products at varying price points.”
