Now there's a new way to view Wal-Mart sales compared to the total market. It's the Business Indicator Report for Wal-Mart, created for the Wal-Mart executive team, merchants, and the retailer's selected vendor partners.
This unique snapshot mirrors Wal-Mart's departmental structure and is available for the retailer's core, general merchandise, and operating divisions. It encompasses apparel, hardlines, entertainment, and home - all categories for which NPD is Wal-Mart's preferred provider of consumer information.
Based on information from our online panel of over 3 million consumers, the new reports include brand share for strategic brands and retailer performance for Wal-Mart and key competitors in each category. Wal-Mart will be able to read brand share for the total market, operating division, and the "Brand Aspirational" and "Price Value" segments.
By providing selected Wal-Mart vendor partners with market information already aligned with the Wal-Mart departmental structure, the new reports eliminate the need for vendors to create their own customized scorecards. The report will complement Retail Link, Wal-Mart's proprietary sales reporting system.
"For the first time in eight years, Wal-Mart will be able to assess their performance within the context of the total market, which will have an impact throughout the organization from the executive team down to the buyers and merchants," said Paul Cantrell, Wal-Mart Global Team Leader for NPD. "And by providing a common basis for viewing the market, the report will enable vendors to focus resources more strategically."
