Research Sciences Profile:
Mark Kinnucan
Director of Research Sciences

Mark joined NPD in July, 2004, bringing to the company an extensive background in statistics and estimation techniques. Before joining NPD, he was director of operations for a small research company that produces a syndicated consumer study of travel behavior. Prior to entering the market research business eight years ago, Mark taught and conducted research for many years in university psychology departments and schools of library and information science. He generally taught the advanced research methods and statistics courses in the departments where he worked.
“I have been laboring under what I guess you could call the ‘influence of inference’ for as long as I can remember. I’ve always been captivated by the idea that you can measure a relative handful of individuals and then make broad statements about entire populations or entire markets. There’s something intrinsically satisfying about seeing that process work and thinking of ways to make it work better,” Mark said.
Mark holds a B.A. in Psychology from Colorado College, a Masters of Library Science from Case Western Reserve University, and a Ph.D. in Cognitive Psychology from the University of New Mexico. He completed post-doctoral training in quantitative psychology at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
