The non-profit Cosmetic Executive Women, Inc. (CEW) is a professional organization of more than 4,000 executives in the beauty, cosmetics, fragrance, and related industries. For 14 years, the CEW Beauty Awards, one of the organization’s most anticipated events, have singled out the best new products the industry has to offer.
A new partnership between The NPD Group and CEW was created for the 2008 Beauty Awards. Leveraging NPD’s beauty industry expertise, CEW instituted new product categories and entry requirements to more closely align the award categories and submission criteria with what is happening in the marketplace. “Specifically, we used NPD’s information and insight to look at the market share of certain categories to determine the categories’ importance to the consumer. NPD data also helped us to look closely at the nuances of products entered – some of which are multi-purpose, and could fall into two or three categories – to make sure each product is represented in the correct category,” explained Tamera Restuccia, CEW Vice President, Programming and Membership.
The partnership resulted in the most competitive and consumer-focused Beauty Awards to date. “We were thrilled with the advice and guidance that everyone on the NPD team was able to provide,” Restuccia said. “We felt the full weight of their expertise and I think that expertise was reflected in the results of the 2008 Beauty Awards.”
